A typical day with Tina

Hi Tina!

Hi, I'm Tina and I've been working at OTTO since 2008. Here, as an advisor in the training team, I supervise dual students with a focus on business informatics and applied informatics.

The start of the day

For me, two things are part of a good start to the day: getting up in peace and then going for a run before heading to my desk at 8:00 a.m.. With a full water bottle and a cup of tea in front of me, I check my daily program, turn on noise cancellation - and then I'm off!

The morning

With what exactly? It's my job to create the best possible conditions for apprentices at OTTO in order to train the best junior staff. I am the contact person for trainees and also for the departments. On a day-to-day basis, this means that I plan the training together with the departments and trainees. This also includes development discussions in which we look together at the time so far: What experience and knowledge has been gained, where does the person currently stand, and what is actually important from the outset for a smooth takeover? I use these questions to promote the trainees' development. In addition, this also happens in workshops that I design, organize and moderate.

In addition to the topics mentioned, there are always individual projects that keep me busy. My favorite is definitely the Onboarding: Each day is scheduled from 9am-5pm and includes different sessions. For example, there is the opportunity for an exchange with Katy, our divisional manager. In addition, the trainees can expect specialist presentations on selected topics, as well as get-to-know-you and networking sessions.

We are currently holding this for the second time digital and it works great, the differences are not that big. Of course, face-to-face meetings create a different atmosphere: this includes closeness, intensive impressions and getting to know the campus, our actual workplace. When you enter the campus, you immediately get a great atmosphere and you can feel the culture. That gives you a sense of security. But the trainees also experience this digitally, which is why we do everything we can. Almost every day there are exchange meetings, such as short check-ins at the beginning of the day with the respective instructor. In addition, each group is accompanied by 2-3 mentors, i.e. trainees from higher years, and we also offer a 1:1 buddy program for close exchange.

The lunch break

I like to use my break to eat with my family - preferably sushi. When I'm working on campus, I aim for the salad bar and like to meet up with colleagues from my network on the boulevard. Both between 12-13:00 p.m.😊 After that, I'm ready for the afternoon and everything it brings.

The afternoon

My workday does have fixed appointments and tasks such as team routines or dailies, but in general, real life likes to swoop in. As a trainer in the training team, my work and its course are shaped by one thing in particular: the trainees. Accordingly, the trainee lifecycle determines a large part of my daily routine. But it's not just them - my day is also shaped by our colleagues at the interfaces with whom I work. Together with the team of trainee experts from Recruiting, for example, I make the selection for the next year's intake. This also involves the marketing measures that need to be planned. I design these together with HR Marketing.

In addition to these interfaces, however, I also find others exciting with whom I work less. If time allows, for example, I'd like to get to know the company through a job shadowing in one of the e-commerce teams. Different roles come together there and the work has a direct impact on customers. I think that would be creative and I would also like to try out programming myself. I think it's important to keep learning, and every day I notice through my work with the trainees how stimulating even a short period of work shadowing in a different area can be.

In general, I am very happy in my team: humorous, professional and flexible. That probably describes us best. And my highlight? That is always the intense moment of a trainee's graduation. When we pause and look back over the past three years and marvel at how individuals have developed. And then when the takeover is planned and implemented! That can't be topped.

The end of the day

Of course, I still look forward to the end of the day. I usually clear my desk around 6:00 p.m., turn on out-of-office assistants, and call out to the kids that I'll be done in a minute. 😊

And conclusion: Why OTTO and the training team?

I can say with full conviction that even after such a long time, I still enjoy working in the training team and at OTTO. My job is varied and I have a high degree of freedom and creative freedom when it comes to my work. But that's not all. I enjoy working in the team and with the trainees, and I have a good mix of operational activities, projects and strategic issues on my desk. Daily and always new. 😊
