Work-Life Blend – harmonising professional and private life


We blend our working and private lives, and aim to find a sustainable balance between them both. This is why OTTO makes many different worktime options available to its employees, to help them find the balance that’s just right for them individually. We call it ‘Work-Life Blending’.

Ensuring there’s breathing space for individual lifestyles, personal needs and family demands means something different for each of us – a flexible home-office model, for example, or parental leave for young mothers and fathers. We’ll support you in designing your individual working schedule to give you space and valuable time with your family.


Job Sharing is also a well-established model at OTTO. Hasina Lakdawala and Astrid Meyer share a job as Director’s Assistant and they are delighted: "For us, variety at OTTO means being able to breathe life into a really special working model. Job-sharing lets us pursue an interesting task at OTTO, and at the same time be integrated within the network of OTTO colleagues. It also means we can make the best-possible use of our free time!"

Sabbatical, Ilka

The option of sabbatical leave is not yet widespread in German companies. Ilka Hindrichs, Project Manager, Corporate Strategy & Development Otto Group has this to say: "It’s so valuable to be able to let go for a space of time, so you can gather what you need when you return to the company. My management team gave me this trust and enabled me to dedicate a very rewarding time to my personal goals – this gave me plenty of energy and motivation to bring back to my job. A win for both parties!"

 

OTTO is convinced that people who enjoy work, live better – and vice versa.


We also set great store by fitness and sport with OTTO Health Management. For instance, in our company sports programme all employees have the option to participate in more than 30 kinds of sports. Or they can join our Fitness Lounge, which we operate in cooperation with the Techniker Krankenkasse health insurer. In the largest company-owned fitness studio in Germany you’ll find an extensive range of equipment and innovative courses such as tai chi or yoga. This is all professionally supervised and you’ll find lots of pleasant colleagues are already taking part. This is health training that's full of variety and plenty of fun!
